Editing/checking of an input Email Address at RidgeStar is made up of two general mechanisms. They are:
- Syntax validation
- Does the Email address appear in the proper format)?
- Mail Server validation
- Is there an operational Mail Server associated with the Domain?
- Does the Mail Server system have a valid Reverse DNS entry/PTR defined?
In an effort to defeat inappropriate use of Internet Mail Service (SMTP), the RidgeStar Mail Server requires that an initiating/sending Mail Server be defined to DNS (Domain Name Service) in such a way that we can confirm the Mail Server. We do this by looking up the IP Address associated with the defined Mail Server (extracted from DNS) and then using that IP Address to locate a Reverse DNS entry (identified as a PTR entry).
