Search engines are specialized systems (with their portal typically useful through their own website) that collect the content of other Sites that contain information on a particular topic. Usually, you simply enter a topic and the Search Engine will return a list of Sites that relate to your topic.

Search Engines are basically the online electronic equivalent of the old hardcopy Yellow Pages. They are particularly important if your Site's target audience includes people who need to find your product or service, but who aren't aware of your company or organization's existence.
