6 April 2009
Effective immediately, RidgeStar is pleased to announce a reduction in the allocated RSU rates for Bandwidth, Hits, and database Fields of 50%. The technical description for this can be stated as:
# | Service | Old RSU | New RSU | Description |
1 | Bandwidth |
1 |
0.5 |
a Megabyte of data transferred |
2 | Fields |
4 |
2 |
a Field in a Database Table |
3 | Hits |
0.005 |
0.0025 |
an HTTP request for a file |
The net effect of this change in pricing and Fee allocation will be dependent upon your individual Site and whether or not your site utilizes one of the three Services as a large percentage of your RidgeStar Service Fees.
Why Change the RSU Fees?
The rationale behind any adjustment to Service Fees is made up of several factors, including but not limited to:
- How to fairly distribute costs of operations across all Clients
- Overall Business tactical strategy and objectives
- Encouraging desired behavior
In particular, RidgeStar has adjusted these specific RSU Services because:
- Bandwidth and Hits
- As our client base has become comfortable with the general concepts associated with an Interactive Site, the realization of what is possible has led many clients to implement more and more function for use within their respective Organizations. This, in turn, drives up the Hit count, as well as Bandwidth. At the same time, RidgeStar has continued to add capacity and bandwidth behind the scenes to meet these needs. We are now comfortable that the availabile bandwidth from the RidgeStar servers is not a point of contention and, as a result, we feel it appropriate to expand (in fact, double) the volume of Hits and Bandwidth that can be utilized for the same logical Fees.
- Fields
- As more and more Clients opt for more flexibility and function in their Site(s), the need to add database capability has become apparent. This is to both the Client and RidgeStar's advantage, as additional flexibility often times leads to improved function for the Client AND, with the proper implementation, to less day to day work for RidgeStar personnel. Thus, the Fields RSU reduction is intended to remove any hesitation about whether or not a Client will opt for additional data elements in a Database Table.
The modification to the RSU Fee Scale is being put into effect today (April 6, 2009) and will be reflected immediately across all RidgeStar sites via Administrator: RidgeStar-RSU Chart. The RSU Chart page will also offer the ability to compute/display the summary Chart using Fees=2008 for comparison purposes (look for suitable hyperlinks in the text of the page).
